It’s well-known— as we’ve mentioned in a few of our other articles, blogs and thoughts— that Saudi Arabia holds certain discrimination towards and strict rules for women. As we’d mentioned before, women aren’t allowed to travel, wear what they want, have access to certain healthcare benefits, study, or even drive without being permitted to do so— and in some cases escorted— by a male figure. However, according to Ivanka Trump, Saudi Arabia is making progress in empowering women within their country.

When asked how Ivanka felt about women’s rights and empowerment, she said, “Saudi Arabia’s progress, especially in recent years, is very encouraging.” In the article by India Times, Ivanka had said that even though there is still a lot of work to be done as far as freedoms and opportunities for women, that there’s still an ounce of encouragement by recent things the King is putting into place, like women no longer needing a man’s permission to pursue their own wants and needs. She went on to say that it’s not actually about religion, which most people might think, but actually a cultural issue.
